When is news about Ukraine, not about Ukraine?
After weeks of covering the Freedom Convoy in Canada with headlines continually signalling its inappropriateness by referring to it as “so called”, our MSM has turned it’s attention to a new story: the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. This story comes about at just the right time for our members of the press, our “so called” journalists, as it has all the elements a good MSM story needs.
Firstly it may, possibly, which in journalistic speak can be reported: certainly, involve one or many persons DYING. And this is exceedingly important, as so much valuable time has been spent in the last few years making sure that everyone understands: death is not acceptable. It was with great effort and the complete removal of logic that this sentiment was finally accepted as being beyond reproach. It is extremely important and truly astounding that they were able to do so, what with the truth being exactly the opposite: death is inevitable. It’s occurrence is based on many factors that run the gamut from sheer chance to elevated risk. Yet with the power of human emotion and an almost worldwide desire to not die, they have been able to make it so: we say death, you get hysterical.
Secondly, the actual issues in the region are so long running, so complex and so far away, that unlike their coverage of Covid, that most people following the science can see are clearly are untrue, this situation is difficult to understand and more difficult to resolve even for those who have been working on a resolution for years. There is really no way for their MSM audience to be able to reasonably figure out the truth for themselves for some time to come. Especially with the tried and true tactics of making sure they are never confronted with any thing true. Allowing the ongoing story to be a vehicle for whatever their daily agenda happens to be.
Thirdly, it can easily be served up as a fight for democracy. Everyone loves good old democracy, except the MSM that is. Democracy goes against their desire to decide for you. There’s no place for actual democracy when those that ‘know what is best for you’, are making your most important decisions. But pretending to love democracy? Well that is a good as it gets for blinding people about what is actually happening and is a corner stone of obscuring truth right beside it’s compatriot: death.
With these 3 magical charms of the new journalism, very few can find themselves constructing a reasonable argument against any thing they say. And they can say quite a lot. By invoking death they can say that any concern you may currently have pales in comparison to those that are certainly going to die! And ensure that whatever freedoms you may have been trying to protect have instantly been spun into the unbelievable selfishness of someone who just doesn’t “get it”. Thereby eliminating a recent narrative that they were having a good deal of difficulty dealing with head on. Your desire for freedom isn’t about not wanting to get a vaccination that doesn’t vaccinate, it’s about you not caring that all Ukrainians are going to die!
By focusing on an utterly confusing geopolitical situation, they can disregard all facts, all in depth reporting on real issues and any need to actually send journalists to cover what is happening, because it is far too much information for the layman to want to understand, far too dangerous for any journalist to be able to help you understand and far too fundamental to even need further understanding. They have told you people will die. You don’t want people to die. Anyone who begs a deeper look is missing what really matters. It’s the same refrain they’ve presented you with before. You don’t understand what is going on but we assure you that WE do and that those who question us do so only because they want to spread misinformation. Since you don’t have any actual information, consider all information dangerous.
By focusing on democracy they can reframe its meaning on the fly to best suit their narrative. In this case democracy means hating all members of a nation. And they can use that to not only further clarify who makes up the rules (that would be them), but can also use it to erode more of your democracy. Imagine letting you, in your democratic society, have the ability to decide what you get to see, purchase or think. No friend. A true democratic nation freely gives away their rights in the fight for democracy. They get to win two battles here by not just further censoring what their own society can see and do, but by also again avoiding the failing head on approach of demonizing those who believe in human rights, such as bodily autonomy. Simply reframe the issue of true democracy as giving up your individual rights for the betterment of your fellow man, this time with the contrast of big bad Russia versus innocent people dying. Yes they are replacing the definition of democracy with the definition of socialism again, but once they’ve got you confused about every concept other than the injustice of death, you are sure not to notice. Again.
Not every news cycle offers up such easy ways to shift the story while maintaining the same narrative. For much of the past few years right and wrong have been more easily identifiable in many of the major MSM stories, but that has been an easy issue to overcome as the power of shaming, outing and cancelling all who opposed the Accepted Opinion, was tremendously powerful indeed. While many of us could easily see the perversion of the truth that was occurring, so very few of us had the ability to withstand instant cancellation. But recently that power has started to fade. As hell bent as the MSM has been to hold back any Covid data from us, while telling us to Follow the Science, that science after 2 long years is finally becoming prevalent. We are finally able to point to the data that proves what has long been known logically and shown anecdotally. Meanwhile those who have been pushed to vaccinate relentlessly with no scientific data, in the case of the trucking industry specifically, were finally pushed too far. The cancelled were, for the first time in ages, made aware of each other and got to bear witness as our demands for real answers were completely lied about or ignored. Perhaps I shouldn’t say ignored. I think they heard us loud and clear. I think they knew the old playbook wasn’t working as well anymore. They needed something more obscure to reassert their fading control. Something exactly like the conflict in Ukraine. The sort of situation where they could keep rolling out their agenda and hammering away at their narrative, without having to answer directly for their lies. It may be a whole new news cycle, but it’s the same old story.
At least, that’s how it seems to me.
